Voicing Masculinities

...

What does it mean to be a young man today?

For many young men, navigating identity, masculinity, and self-expression can feel like a challenge—especially when their voices aren’t always heard or taken seriously. But what happens when we create space for them to share their experiences, on their own terms?

Voicing Masculinities is a powerful outreach project in Bexley that gives young men aged 12-18 the opportunity to explore masculinity, identity, and social justice through creative workshops, live performance, and real-world impact.

Workshops & Creative Exploration

📖 Storytelling & Self-Expression – Using testimonial, verbatim, and live performance, young men share their ideas and challenge stereotypes about masculinity.
🎭 Dialogue with Professionals – Educators, social workers, and youth justice professionals will take part in parallel workshops, exploring how they engage with young people’s experiences of injustice.

Performance & Community Action

The voices from these workshops will be woven into a verbatim theatre production, performed in community spaces and youth venues across Bexley. Young people, professionals, and policymakers will come together to watch, reflect, and discuss real-world solutions to the challenges facing young men today.

Why bring Voicing Masculinities to your organisation?

🎤 Gives young men a platform – Encourages honest conversations about masculinity, identity, and self-expression.
🔗 Connects communities – Creates dialogue between young people, youth workers, and decision-makers.
📢 Leads to real change – Insights from the project will inform training for social workers and educators, ensuring long-term impact.

Training & Next Steps

Following the performances, the project will create digital resources, case studies, and training workshops for schools, youth services, and justice settings. A national conference will bring together key stakeholders to drive policy change and improve support for young men in Bexley and beyond.
